This here watch, they call it the CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon”, or something like that. Sounds fancy, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t just fancy talk. This thing, it’s somethin’ else. I saw a picture of it, and boy, it sure is a looker. Black as the night sky, that’s what it is. Makes me think of them astronauts goin’ up to the moon. Must be a real special watch to be named after all that.

You know, back in my day, we didn’t have none of these fancy watches. A watch was a watch. Told ya the time, and that was that. But this here Omega Speedmaster, it’s different. It’s got all these dials and buttons. I don’t know what half of ’em do, but they sure do look important. I bet you gotta be real smart to figure this watch out, like one of them rocket scientists. But even if you don’t know what all the buttons are, it still looks good. Real good. Like somethin’ a movie star would wear.

They say it’s made of some special stuff, this watch. Not your regular metal, no sir. They say it’s as strong as an ox, maybe even stronger. And that strap, it ain’t leather neither. They use some newfangled fabric. Black, just like the watch. Cordura, I think they called it. Sounds tough, like it could survive a tornado. I reckon you could wear this watch every day, doin’ chores, workin’ in the fields, and it wouldn’t even get a scratch.

  • This watch is black like the night.
  • It’s got lots of buttons.
  • It’s made of strong stuff.
  • The strap is made of Cordura.
  • It’s like the one astronauts wear.

Now, I heard tell that this CopyOMEGA watch, it ain’t cheap. Costs more than a pretty penny, that’s for sure. Twelve dollars, I think they said, or maybe it was thousand. A lot of money either way. More than I ever spent on anything, ‘cept maybe my old truck, and that was a long time ago. But you know what? For a watch like this, I can see why. It’s like a piece of history, right there on your wrist. Makes you feel like you’re part of somethin’ big, somethin’ important. Like those astronauts, headin’ off to the moon and doin’ brave things.

I don’t know much about these newfangled things, like them “files” and “docs” they talk about. Sounds like somethin’ from one of them spy movies. Back in my day, if you wanted to share somethin’, you just handed it over. Pictures, letters, whatever. Now they got these “videos” and “audio” things. All stored on a little thing you can’t even see. Magic, I tell ya! I don’t know if this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster has any of that stuff. Probably not. It’s just a watch, after all. A really nice watch, though. But if it could hold these photos and videos that would be something.

And then there’s this “Gemma” thing. Sounds like a girl’s name. They say it’s from Google. Don’t know what that is, but it sounds important. They say it’s like them Gemini models. Twins, maybe? Or maybe it’s some kind of code, like them spies use. “Text-to-text,” they call it. Don’t ask me what that means. I can barely write a letter, let alone send these “texts”. If this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Apollo 8 can do that, send texts that is, that would be a real miracle. It is amazing what they come up with these days.

I heard someone talkin’ about trackin’ somethin’. An application, they called it. Like applyin’ for a job, but different. They even gave a number to call, 51-401-9666, and an “E” somethin’ address. Must be important if they got a phone number and all. Sounds like somethin’ for them college folks. I never went to no college. Didn’t need to. Learned everything I needed to know right here on the farm. I bet they don’t learn about this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster in college.

And this “MAC address” thing. Sounds like somethin’ from a science fiction book. They say it’s a special number for every machine. Like a fingerprint, but for computers and such. They use it to talk to each other, these machines. It’s all beyond me, but it sounds mighty complicated. I guess that’s how they keep track of everything these days. All these numbers and codes. I wonder if this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster has a MAC address? Probably not. Why would a watch need an address?

Then there are these shapes, they were talkin’ about. Squares, circles, and whatnot. Like in them kid’s books. But these are special shapes, they say. You can type them on a computer, using some secret code. “Alt codes,” they call it. It’s like a secret language, just for computers. They even show you how to do it. Press some buttons, and poof, there’s your shape. Magic, I tell ya! Maybe this CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster has some of those shapes on it. It is all just shapes and numbers these days.

This CopyOMEGA Ω Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” watch, it’s a real mystery to me. But it sure is somethin’ to look at. It’s like a little piece of the future, right there on your wrist. Maybe one day, I’ll get to see one up close. Maybe even try it on. That would be somethin’, wouldn’t it? Wearin’ a watch that’s been to the moon, or at least named after it. Yes, sir, that would be somethin’ special.
