Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with the Fendi Mon Tresor bucket bag lately, but the price tag? Not so much. I decided to take matters into my own hands and try to recreate it myself. It was a wild ride, let me tell you!
First, I spent hours online looking at pictures of the bag, especially the original one with the “FF” pattern. I needed to figure out how to get that embossed look on the leather. After some digging, I found a few DIY methods for embossing leather at home. I opted for the simplest one that I felt comfortable doing, which was really just a lot of careful pressing with some tools I already had.
I started by getting some brown calfskin leather – the closest I could find to the original. Then, I carefully drew out the “FF” pattern, trying to make it look as close to the real deal as possible. This took forever, and my hand was cramping like crazy, but I was determined!
Next, I started embossing. That involved a lot of meticulous work, pressing and shaping the leather to get that raised “FF” effect. Let me tell you, it was way harder than it looked online! I messed up a few times and almost gave up, but I kept going.
Once the embossing was done (finally!), I started assembling the bag. I followed a basic bucket bag pattern that I found online. The drawstring fastening was pretty straightforward. But those metal decorations in the Fendi logo shape? That was a whole other challenge! I ended up crafting something similar out of some metal bits and bobs I found at a craft store. They weren’t perfect, but they did the trick.
Then came the shoulder straps. I wanted to mimic the two detachable straps – one long and one short – so I made those too. It was a bit tricky getting the lengths right, but I managed it after a few tries.
Finally, after days of work, my DIY Fendi Mon Tresor was done!
- Was it a perfect replica?
- Absolutely not.
- But was it a fun project?
- For sure!
It definitely has its quirks and imperfections, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. Plus, I saved a ton of money, and I have a unique bag that I made myself. Not bad for a DIY project, right?
