Okay, so I’ve been eyeing those fancy YSL bags for a while, you know, the ones with the shiny logo? Saw one called the “June Box Bag” online at the official store and thought, “Man, that’s sharp!” But the price? Ouch. So, I decided, why not try to remake it myself? A little DIY project, right?
First, I studied that bag like it was the most important thing in the world. I looked at every picture on the website, front, back, inside, even the close-ups of the stitching. I noticed it’s basically a little box, made of leather, with a flap and that signature YSL clasp. Pretty straightforward, I thought.
Next, I had to gather my materials. I already had some old leather scraps lying around from another project. They weren’t calfskin like the original, but they were a nice, thick leather. For the lining, I used an old suede jacket I never wear anymore. Figured it would give it that luxurious feel inside.
Then came the hard part – making the pattern. I took measurements from the pictures, drew them out on paper, and cut out the shapes. I made sure to leave extra room for the seams. It took some trial and error, a lot of measuring and remeasuring, to get the pieces to fit together just right. A little box is simple, right? NO! A little mistake and it’s a mess!
Once I had the pattern down, I carefully cut the leather and suede. Sewing it all together was a challenge. My sewing machine isn’t exactly industrial strength, but I managed. I used a heavy-duty needle and went slow, making sure each stitch was strong and straight. I even added a little flat pocket inside, just like the real one!
The trickiest part was definitely the clasp. I couldn’t find anything exactly like the YSL one, so I had to get creative. I found a cool-looking, bronze-toned, pivoting thing at a craft store. It wasn’t perfect, but it had that same kind of vibe, you know? I had to hand-sew and glue it, because it’s tough, you know.
After many hours of work, I finally finished it! It wasn’t an exact replica, of course. The leather was different, the clasp was a substitute, and my stitching probably wasn’t as perfect as a machine’s. But you know what? It looked pretty darn good! I was so proud of it. It’s a box bag, it has a flap, and it has that classy, structured look.
- Materials I used:
- Old leather scraps
- Suede from an old jacket
- Bronze-toned clasp
- Heavy-duty thread
- Steps I took:
- Studied the original bag’s design
- Created a pattern
- Cut the leather and suede
- Sewed the pieces together
- Attached the clasp
It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Plus, I saved a ton of money! Maybe it’s not a real YSL, but it’s my YSL, and that’s pretty special. Now, I rock that bag with pride, knowing I made it with my own two hands.
