Okay, so yesterday, I decided it was time to tackle this project I’ve been thinking about. I set out to remake a Prada Galleria Saffiano Special Edition Bag, specifically the small one from their official flagship store. Yeah, I know, “Prada Galleria Saffiano Special Edition”, it’s like they just threw a bunch of fancy words together, right?
I started by looking up everything I could find about this bag. Turns out, Prada was founded way back in 1913 by some guy named Mario Prada. They’re pretty big in the luxury world, known for their, well, luxury stuff and supposedly cutting-edge designs. This Galleria bag I’m after, it first came out in 2007, and it seems like it hasn’t changed much since. I saw some pictures of big shots like Kendall Jenner and Bella Hadid carrying it around, so it must be pretty popular, although it’s not cheap, around a thousand dollars, which is too much in my opinion.
I got all my materials ready. This wasn’t my first rodeo, so I felt pretty confident. I laid out the leather, got my tools in order, and started cutting. It’s a bit tricky because you want to get it just right, you know? No room for mistakes when you’re working with something this, uh, “sophisticated”. This bag is supposed to be all about combining industrial precision with handcrafting details, or something like that.
The cutting part took a while. I had to make sure each piece was perfect. Then came the stitching. I used a simple saddle stitch that gives it a classic look.
- First, mark the stitching line with a stitching groover.
- Then use a pricking iron to make the holes.
- Finally, stitch it by hand.
It’s not as easy as it sounds, stitching takes patience. But I like it, it’s kind of relaxing, actually.
Assembling the Bag
After the stitching, I started putting the bag together. This part is always exciting because you start to see the actual bag taking shape. I assembled the pieces, put the lining inside with some glue, and attached the hardware. They’ve got these bags in different sizes, big and small. I’m doing the small one, which is probably the hardest because everything is so tiny.
And there you have it. It’s done. It looks pretty good if I do say so myself. It’s not exactly like the one from the store, but it’s got its own charm. Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special. Maybe I’ll make another one, or maybe I’ll try a different design. Who knows? The possibilities are endless when you can make things with your own hands. I think it’s time for me to try something new and more challenging.
Hope you guys enjoyed this little journey. I think everyone can do it! Stay tuned for more of my crafting adventures!
