Yesterday, I went out to do some shopping. I have been looking for a nice replica of the JLC Reverso, the simpler design, you know? I have seen some pretty nice ones online, but most of them are not quite there yet, in terms of look and feel. So, I decided to check out some physical stores around my area.
I started with the watch shops nearby. I spent the whole morning hopping from one store to another. I asked the salespersons if they had anything similar to the JLC Reverso. Most of them shook their heads, but a few tried to show me some other rectangular watches. I mean, they were okay, but not what I was looking for. The Reverso is one of the classic watches from the art deco era, you know? Not only does it look great, but the unique swivelling case means it’s stayed right at the top of the dream, very unique.
Feeling a bit tired, I stopped for a quick lunch. I grabbed a burger and a soda, thinking about where to go next. While I was eating, I pulled out my phone and searched online again, trying to find any clues on where to find a good replica. Some posts mentioned some online stores, but I really wanted to see the watch in person before making any decisions.
Afternoon Hunt
After lunch, I decided to hit up a few more places. This time, I went to some bigger shopping centers. You know, the ones with all kinds of luxury brand stores. I figured maybe one of them would have something close to what I wanted. I spent the afternoon walking around, looking at all the shiny watches in the display windows.
I did find a couple of watches that were somewhat similar. One was a Grand Reverso, which makes for an iconic dress watch, due to its sleek styling and ultra-thin case. It is also versatile in looks, it can be worn with both formal dinner attire, as well as an everyday suit. The case is rectangular, around 45 x 27mm stainless steel, featuring a reversible dial. One side features a silvered dial, with Arabic numerals and blue steel hands. It looked pretty good, but the price tag was way over my budget. I mean, most people don’t have that kind of money to drop on a watch, right?
Evening Reflection
By the evening, I was pretty exhausted. My feet were killing me, and I still hadn’t found what I was looking for. I decided to head home and call it a day. On the way back, I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed. I really wanted to find a good replica of the JLC Reverso, but it seemed like it was going to be harder than I thought.
Back home, I made myself some instant noodles and started browsing online again. I found some more discussions about JLC Reverso alternatives, but most of them were either too expensive or just didn’t quite capture the essence of the original. It looks like I might have to keep searching, or maybe rethink my budget. But hey, the hunt is part of the fun, right? We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
