Got a new project today, pretty excited about it. I’m going to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001, just like the one you’d see in their official flagship store. Sounds fancy, right? Well, it kinda is, but I’m gonna break it down for y’all.
First off, I started by gathering all the info I could find about this watch. It’s a real beauty, part of the Calatrava collection. Did some digging and found out that the waiting list for these things can be crazy. Like, for some Patek Philippe watches, you’re waiting up to 8 years! But for this Calatrava, it seems like it’s around a year, which is still a long time.
After I got a good handle on what I was trying to make, I started sketching. Nothing fancy, just getting the basic shapes down. This watch is 39mm wide and 8.08mm thick. I also started to think about the materials I wanted to use.
Then I grabbed some tools and materials. I decided to go with something that looks like white gold. This part was a bit tricky, figuring out how to make it look just right. I spent a good chunk of time working on the case, trying to get that perfect shape and shine.
Next up was the dial. This is where those fancy “Clous de Paris” details come in. It’s this intricate pattern that’s really eye-catching. I tried a couple of different techniques to get this right, and finally landed on something that looked pretty darn good.
- Getting the case right: Took me a few tries, but I finally got that smooth, round shape.
- Working on the dial: That Clous de Paris pattern is no joke! But I think I nailed it.
- Putting it all together: This was the moment of truth. Seeing all the pieces come together was super satisfying.
The hands were another challenge. They’re three-dimensional, which adds a nice touch of depth. I played around with some different materials and techniques until I found something I liked.
Finally, I put it all together. And let me tell you, seeing the finished product was pretty awesome. It’s not the real deal, of course, but it’s a pretty good remake if I do say so myself. I’m going to make the back see-through, like the original, so you can see all the little gears and stuff moving. It’s pretty cool.
It’s definitely got that classic, elegant vibe that Patek Philippe is known for. It is not an easy job! But I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I am sure the official flagship store would be happy, too!
