Okay, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster 38mm for a while now. It’s a real beauty, but the price tag is, well, let’s just say it’s a bit much for my wallet right now. I started thinking, “There’s gotta be a way to get that classic Speedmaster look without breaking the bank.” That’s when I decided I’m gonna find the best way to copy it.
First, I dove into some serious online window shopping. I spent hours browsing through those pre-owned watch sites, hoping to stumble upon a deal. Man, there are a lot of watches out there, I scrolled through pages and pages. No luck. Everything was still way out of my price range. Or, I found some cheap one, but I didn’t trust them.
Then I remembered something about the history of the Speedmaster. I read somewhere that the original movement, the Calibre 321, was actually based on a Lemania movement. And guess what? Lemania used to be part of the same company as OMEGA! This got me thinking, maybe I could find a watch with a similar movement from back in the day. I know it is a little bit tricky, but I started to search for it.
I started digging around online forums and some watch enthusiast groups. I was on a mission to find an affordable watch that captured that Speedmaster vibe. It felt like I was on a treasure hunt, piecing together clues and following leads. Finally, I found a guy who had a lot of watches. He didn’t have OMEGA, but he had a lot of other watches. He said, “No matter what you love, you can always find something similar.” I agreed with him.
I went to his store the next day. I tried some watches on my wrist. They didn’t feel bad. Finally, I bought one.

- It doesn’t have the OMEGA name, but who cares? It looks great on my wrist!
- It’s a manual-wind, just like the original Speedmaster. It’s not the same, but it’s fun.
It’s not an exact copy, of course, but it definitely gives me that classic Speedmaster feel without the hefty price. It’s a cool watch with its own story, and I’m pretty happy with it. The guy in the store said, “But from what I hear, this is a good watch.” I’m satisfied. Mission accomplished!
