This watch, you see, this OMEGA thing, it’s called Speedmaster Apollo 8, “Dark Side of the Moon”, they say. Sounds fancy, huh? My grandson, he’s always on that internet thing, he told me it’s a big deal. Says it’s like the real deal, original order, whatever that means. Costs a heap of money, that’s for sure. I saw a price tag once, nearly fainted. Over ten thousand dollars! Can you believe that? For a watch!
Well, I gotta say, it looks pretty. Shiny and black, like a beetle’s back after a good rain. I saw a picture of it, you can see right through the front part, all the little gears and whatnot turning. They say it looks like the moon, the near side of the moon. I don’t know about that. I seen the moon plenty of times, looks more like a dusty old pie to me. But this OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8, it’s got that look, I guess. All dark and mysterious.
Now, this “Dark Side of the Moon”, it’s all the rage, they tell me. People payin’ good money for these old watches. They say it’s a good investment. This watch is going to be worth a lot more later. They say that about a lot of things. You know, like them Beanie Babies, people said the same thing about those silly things, and they got a whole box of them, just sitting there. But this OMEGA watch, I don’t know. Might be different.
- This watch, this Speedmaster, they used to wear it on the moon, I heard.
- It’s got all them little dials and buttons. I don’t know what they all do.
- They call this one Apollo 8, like the name of some space trip or somethin’.

My grandson, he showed me some pictures online. All these folks, they’re all excited about this Speedmaster Apollo 8. They say it’s a classic. They say it’s gonna be worth even more in a few years. They call it a “Speedy”. Now, that’s a name I can understand. Speedy, like my old rooster, always running around. It will still hold its value, they said.
Now, they had some big show, back in 2018, I think. They called it Baselworld. Sounds like a place where they grow basil. Anyway, this OMEGA company, they showed off all their new watches there. They had this other one, a Seamaster 300M. Sounds like something you’d wear underwater, you know? I asked my grandson about it, he said this “Dark Side of the Moon” watch is better.
They say these old Speedmaster watches, the ones they wore before they went to the moon, those are real valuable. “Pre-Moon”, they call ’em. Like before the big moon trip. If you got one of those, you’re lucky, they say. Worth a pretty penny. This OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8, it’s kinda like those, but newer, I guess. I don’t know all these things, only know what my grandson told me.
I seen a picture of the back of this watch, too. It’s got all these words on it. I couldn’t read ’em all, too small. But it looked important. This watch is special, I guess that’s what they want you to think. And people are buyin’ it, that’s for sure. Payin’ all that money. For a watch. It’s a crazy world. This “original order” stuff, well, it just means it’s like the first ones they made, I reckon. Like the first batch of cookies, always the best.
Now, if you got the money, and you like this kinda thing, then maybe this OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon” is for you. It’s a nice lookin’ watch, I’ll give it that. And if those folks are right, it might be worth a lot more someday. I don’t know. I think I prefer using the sun to tell the time, no need to spend so much money. But that’s just me.
These young folks today, they like these fancy things. This watch, with all its fancy names, “Dark Side of the Moon”, “Apollo 8”, “Speedy”. It’s all a bit much for me. But hey, if it makes ’em happy, that’s all that matters, right? Just don’t ask me to buy one. I’d rather spend my money on something useful, like a new cow or a good strong fence.
This OMEGA, they make a lot of watches, I guess. This one, the Speedmaster Apollo 8, it’s just one of ’em. But it’s the one everyone’s talkin’ about. Like I said, it’s a crazy world. People payin’ all that money for a watch. But who am I to judge? I just hope they enjoy it, that’s all. This watch is a big deal to some people, that’s all I know. If you want to buy this OMEGA watch, you need a lot of money, you know?
