Today, I wanted to mess around and see if I could remake the Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001, just for kicks. I’ve always loved the look of this classic style, and I figured, why not give it a shot?
I started by grabbing a bunch of pictures of the real deal online. I mean, you gotta know what you’re working with, right? I studied those images like it was my job, trying to get a feel for every little detail.
Next, I fired up my trusty old tools. I’ve got a bunch of these little things for shaping and whatnot. I picked out this plain, round piece of metal to start with. It was nothing special, but I had a vision.
- First things first, I had to get that basic shape down. The Gondolo 7041R-001 isn’t just a circle; it’s more like an oval, kind of between a circle and a rectangle. So, I got to work, filing and shaping the metal. It took a while, and my hands got pretty tired, but I finally got it looking right.
- Then came the fun part—making the dial. I used a darker piece of metal for this, kind of like a blue gold color, if you can imagine. I carefully cut out the shape and made sure it fit perfectly inside the case I’d just made.
- The hands and hour markers were a real pain. I had to use some really thin pieces of gold-colored metal for these. I cut them out as best as I could, but man, they were tiny! Gluing them onto the dial was a nightmare. I think I messed up a few times and had to start over.
Putting It All Together
After all that, it was time to put everything together. This was probably the most nerve-wracking part. I carefully placed the dial into the case, then added the movement, It felt good seeing all the pieces finally come together.
In the end, did it look exactly like a real Patek Philippe Gondolo 7041R-001? Of course not! But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot along the way. Plus, now I have a cool-looking watch that I made myself. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what counts. It’s a little rough around the edges, just like me! That’s all for today’s little adventure, see you next time!
