Okay, so, I’ve been working on this project for a while now, and I’m pretty stoked to share it with you all. I’ve been trying to remake the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. Yeah, that super fancy, limited edition watch that’s basically a piece of art. I got my tools together, rolled up my sleeves, and started to work.
First, I looked at a bunch of pictures and read up on everything about the original. This watch is seriously intricate. I mean, they only made ten of these, and they’re made of platinum. Platinum is hard, guys! Plus, it’s got this sapphire-crystal back that’s just beautiful. It’s clear that this watch costs over a hundred grand, which I saw online, but the ones for sale were a bit cheaper, going for around eighty grand.
Getting Started
I started by gathering all the materials I needed.
- Tried to find some platinum, but that stuff is expensive, so I opted for a more budget-friendly alternative.
- Got a similar-looking case and a dial.
- Bought the same sapphire crystal back.
The Process
The first thing I did was work on the dial. This was the most challenging part, to be honest.
- I spent days just practicing the engraving.
- Used small tools, like needles and stuff, to copy the original design.
- Messed up a few times, but hey, that’s part of the process, right?
Once I had the dial somewhat decent, I started to work on the case.
- Polished the case to make it look all shiny and new.
- Used this small polishing tool to make it shine.
- Made sure it looked as close to the original as possible.
Next, I put the whole thing together.
- Carefully placed the dial into the case.
- Attached the movement.
- Then, I added the hands and the sapphire-crystal back.
The Result
After a lot of work and a few do-overs, I finally had my own version of the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5088/100P-001. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of it. It looks similar, and it gives me that fancy watch vibe without breaking the bank. I learned a lot of things along the way. It’s a good feeling to take something complicated and try to make your own.
